We will be expanding on information from our first post about this lighthouse. If you missed it, you can read it here: https://meghanhirst27.wixsite.com/my-site/post/stonington-ct-part-3-stonington-harbor-lighthouse-history.

The Stonington Historical Society went to great lengths to preserve this historic landmark! It is a place for history buffs and promotes tourism, yes, but it is also a cherished part of the local community. In fact, the organization has raised over $1,900,000 for their Lighthouse Project! :O Specific details about the restoration of the building, supplementary photos, and more are in the Campaign section on their website Stoningtonhistory.Org.

The lighthouse museum was the first of its kind in the U.S. It contains over three hundred years' worth of historical documents and artifacts from Stonington. The collection is in immediate view as soon as you pass through the entrance. When you are done observing all of it, you can climb up the short flight of steps and little ladder to get to the top of the tower. Here, you can look out at the Long Island Sound. If you have questions, do not hesitate to ask the docents—they are well informed!

This attraction's hours of operation, admission fees, and other details are available on the website.

Stonington Town Square is next!

What is the best history museum you have been to?
