Azaleas! There are over a thousand of these exquisite flowering shrubs here :O The groundskeepers are fully committed to helping them and the other flowering shrubs and flowers and trees flourish. There is no doubt that they love nature as much as my mom and I do!
The Azaleas can be spotted around the Sayen House. The peak season for them is May. If you missed the photo of the house in part 1, you can follow this link: https://meghanhirst27.wixsite.com/my-site/post/sayen-gardens-part-1-history,
There are numerous fascinating facts about azaleas. They grow in six different colors: orange, pink, white, purple, yellow, and red. Their average lifespan is fifty years :O The two types are deciduous and evergreen. Evergreen azaleas originated in China and Japan. The ones that grew in China were imported to England and then imported to the U.S. Several hybrid species were invented in Japan, such as Satsuki and Kurume. Satsuki translates to "Fifth month" and Kurume is a female name that translates to "Love" (I had to add more about Japan because I love Japanese culture :D) To learn more about the background of azaleas and how to grow your own, visit Garden Guides's website and search for "azaleas". They have a super long and thorough article!
We will be presenting some of the other flowering shrubs, flowers, and trees that you can find at Sayen Gardens in part 3!
Which color of azalea do you think is the most beautiful?
