"A little hour well-filled, a little field well-tilled...are great riches."

-Frederick Sayen

We are going to present this travel destination in four parts. My mom has a ton of photos from here since she loves it :D It is definitely an interesting place!

Sayen Gardens is a little hidden gem in Hamilton, NJ. It is a botanical garden that was founded by Frederick Sayen, a passionate gardener and global traveler. He bought a thirty acre lot in Hamilton Square in 1912. He constructed a small house and placed flowering shrubs, flowers, and trees that he obtained during his journeys around it. They are from three specific countries: England, China, and Japan.

Things to remember:

  • The garden is open seven days a week from 8 AM to 6 PM and the admission is free

  • Dogs are allowed if they are on a leash. As always, owners are expected to pick up after them.

  • Exploring all parts of the garden takes about two hours. We recommend staying a bit longer of course!

A map is available on Hamilton Township's website. We will be including more information about the flowering shrubs, flowers. and trees in the next two posts. Stay tuned!

Have you been to a botanical garden?
