"The Kanc" is the nickname that the locals have given this destination. My mom and I do not think many people outside of New Hampshire are familiar with it. At first glance, the view of the White Mountains appears to be breathtaking (we will have a close-up in the next post!)

The Kancamagus Scenic Byway has been around since 1959. It is thirty-four and a half miles and almost three thousand feet high :O It is obviously not ideal if you are afraid of heights! If you love taking photos of autumn leaf colors like my mom, this is actually one of the best places to do so in the U.S. The colors are the most striking at the beginning of October. Important note: please keep an eye out for wildlife while driving, especially for large animals such as moose, deer, and bears! Maps of the entire route are available online.

We will be discussing the history and more features of the White Mountain National Forest next!

Have you ever driven on a scenic byway like this one?
