Stonington, CT - Part 11 Dog Watch Café's Dog Rescue Fund

Updated: Dec 25, 2022

A long bonus post! This restaurant has an outstanding fund!

The full name of the restaurant's fund is the Rooftop Rosie Rescue Fund. Rosie, a Chocolate Labrador Retriever Mix, was rescued from the roof of a house in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2005. The house had been swamped by flood waters as a result of the infamous catastrophic storm Hurricane Katrina. Rosie was transported to her new family in Stonington where she received lots of love. She frequented the exterior of the restaurant, waiting for one of her favorite humans to appear (preferably with a serving of bacon in his hands XD).

When sweet Rosie passed away in 2018, the workers at Dog Watch Café decided to pay tribute to her and dogs in general by starting the fund. Their mission is to improve the quality of life for other dogs that were saved from natural disasters and reconstruct the lives of those that were stuck in kill shelters. They sell two kinds of products: one is Rosie-centered and the other is café-centered. All of the money from the Rosie one is donated to dog rescue organizations. Some from the café one is donated as well.

The mood of the photo depicted above is very fitting for this post. Rosie is no longer at Dog Watch Café, but her memory lives on in the numerous dogs that are being helped by this fund. My mom and I want to personally thank everyone at the restaurant for doing this!

I am always thrilled when I see any kind of animal rescue organization or animal rescue fund such as this. I have been working as an Adoptline Volunteer for an organization called Dallas Pets Alive! in Dallas, Texas for over three years. Our mission is to turn North Texas into a no-kill shelter zone. We save homeless pets in shelters that are in danger of being euthanized. The pets are placed in foster homes then are transported to their forever homes. We emphasize that pets should always be adopted instead of purchased at a pet store. Our Adoption Team responds to interest emails, processes applications, sets up Meet and Greets with pet foster parents, and finalizes adoptions (As an Adoptline Volunteer, I am responsible for doing the first two tasks. There are multiple positions.). I work every Thursday. It is incredibly rewarding!! I get to see photos of pets in their new homes on our weekly reports. I also contributed to multiple five-star reviews on one of our recent adoption surveys, which feels awesome :D If you want to learn more about us, visit Dallaspetsalive.Org or got to Facebook.Com/DallasPetsAlive. There are a lot of ways you can contribute to our continued success! Our page rating is 4.5 out of 5 stars :D

I am not the only one in the family who has supported an animal rescue organization. My mom donated cat food to our local no-kill shelter, the Burlington County Animal Shelter, and in 2017, she and my brother adopted two gray Domestic Shorthair kittens from there. We named them Tony and Mona and they have brought a ton of joy to our lives <3 This shelter ensures that homeless pets are cared for in a relaxing environment before they get adopted. They rescue more than one-thousand pets annually :O If you want to learn more about them and lend your support, visit Facebook.Com/burlingtoncountyanimalshelter. Their page rating is 4.7 out of 5 stars :D

My mom was browsing the café's website and read about the fund. We agreed that doing a separate post about it was an excellent idea. You can see why!

We hope you enjoyed all of our Stonington posts. It is definitely an awesome little town. We will be moving on to another town in Connecticut (Mystic) next!

What funds and/or organizations have you supported? We would love to hear your stories!
