The tiny town of New Hope, Pennsylvania is right next to the Delaware River. General George Washington and his patriot troops visited this area four times while getting ready for the Battle of Trenton (If you missed our discussion about the American Revolution, see our posts about Washington Crossing State Park).
The Parry Mansion Museum is named after New Hope's founder Benjamin Parry. The town was called Coryell's Ferry up until 1837 when Parry gave it the same name as his flour mill. For almost fifty years, Parry contributed to the economic growth of New Hope. Since the Parry family inhabited the mansion from 1775 to 1900, the rooms in the museum have been replicated to represent those you would see during this time span.
The New Hope Historical Society bought the museum in 1966, effectively preventing it from being demolished. This organization will start offering museum and walking tours in April 2022. View their website for more details and please note that they may be subject to change due to COVID-19. There is a lot of other information about the history of New Hope, Pennsylvania, so we encourage you to look it up!
The Bucks County Playhouse is next!
