This canal links the Delaware River to the Raritan River. The Delaware and Raritan Canal Company constructed it under the supervision of the State of New Jersey in 1830. It is more than seventy miles long (wow :O) and goes through Bordentown, Trenton, and New Brunswick.
The term "towpath" is derived from mules towing barges here. You will definitely not see mules anywhere, but you will see a lot of bikers! This is an incredibly good area for biking because the ground is very smooth. For specific information about what else you will spot on this path, visit bikehunterdon.org (Lambertville is in Hunterdon County). You can also find more details about what other activities are permitted around and in the canal by checking out dandrcanal.com.
Quechee State Park in Vermont is next!
