We want to present this because we love church architecture, it has an interesting history, and my mom has a personal story to share about it.
To expand on the architecture a bit, I am specifically fascinated by how churches seem to be frozen in time. This is true with all historic buildings, but especially these.
Catholics have inhabited this area since the 1740s. Father John Gillian and Father Daniel McGorian, the founders of St. John Parish in Trenton, made trips to Lambertville. The first design of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church was constructed in 1840. It had almost one hundred clergy members (That is a large number :O). The second (and current) church design was built in 1893.
My mom's mom's—my grandmother's—family lived in Lambertville and attended masses at this church.
The Delaware Canal Trail is next!
Do you find church architecture fascinating as well?
