Smithville Lake is one of the best features of Smithville Park! I have loved the Floating Trail ever since my mom and I first started coming here. This trail is where we have spotted most of the blue herons. If you have been following along with us, you may recall the photo of the heron perched on top of the railing. One actually flew over the bridge a few feet in front of us and squawked loudly. My mom said he/she was annoyed by her taking photos XD Benches sit in the corners of the bridge, which I find satisfying. Relaxing by the water is a peaceful experience!
The Green Trail is where the toad hopped out in front of me XD
If you are interested in fishing, there are docks in all corners of the lake. Summer is the peak season for this activity. Some of the numerous species of fish that you can catch here are: largemouth bass, yellow perch, carp, catfish, and sunfish. You can also catch American eels. Yes, freshwater eels exist :O Some people may not know that!
Things to remember:
Boats are permitted on the lake, but they cannot be gasoline-powered.
The bridge was reconstructed in 2019. It is a little shaky when a lot of people are on it.
